Hello, my name is Adnan Lutfi, I am currently participating in the UI/UX Bootcamp by Dibimbing.id and After approximately 6 months of participating in this case study bootcamp, this is my final project in participating in dibimbing.id

Background

TikTok is a social media platform that allows you to create and watch content in the form of short mobile videos that are highly popular all over the world. According to DataReportal as of July 2022, the platform has more than one billion monthly active users worldwide. TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance and was originally known in China as Douyin. The app was originally launched in China in September 2016 and only became available worldwide after joining Musical.ly in August 2018. TikTok hosts millions of types of short videos ranging in length from 15 seconds to 10 minutes, including various genres such as dancing, singing, jokes , jokes, education, entertainment, etc. In August 2021, Tiktok finally launched a new feature, Tiktokshop, which is a social commerce platform that offers in-app shopping, especially for Tiktok users. Thus, the aim of this research is to propose a better solution for Tiktoksop, especially on the interface, so that the company remains the leading e-commerce platform.

The objectives of this case study

In general, I hope to be able to refocus Tiktokshop’s core goals back into shopping and selling, while maintaining support for additional features, through this case study. Following are some of the main goals:
1. Create a simpler look
2. Improve product search and selection process
3. Improve cart feature

The process

Stage 1 — Empathize

The first stage of the Design Thinking process is to gain an empathic understanding of the problem I am trying to solve. In this state, I try to put myself in the user’s shoes to really understand their problems and struggles. This initial process is also the stage to seek user insight. In this step, I dig deeper into Tiktokshop’s goals, competitors, online shopping behavior. I did a survey and did an in-depth interview. All of these methods were done to validate my biggest concerns about the app, namely the process of searching and selecting products and using the cart feature.

Planning the research

Method

I will use the In-Dept Interview to collect qualitative data and also use we can discuss to ask open-ended questions that were not thought of before. By using this method, we can capture a bigger picture of the feelings and difficulties that users experience when using the Tiktokshop. As long as it is in the relevant context. This allows us to gain deep insight from the participants.

Targeted Participant

  • Participant Criteria:
    1. Men & Woman
    2. Have shopped online in the last 3 months maximum
    3. Ages 17- 45 years
    4. Tiktok users
  • The number of participants is a minimum of 5 people.

Stage 2— Define

During the Define stage, we collect the information that I have created and collected during the Empathize stage. This is the stage where we analyze the observations and synthesize them to determine the core problems identified to date.I moved some of the answers from research to sticky notes (especially those with shorter answers) to make it easier to sort out patterns from users’ answers (their behavior/difficulty/expectations).

User Persona

A user persona is a fictional character that represents the target user of the product. User personas help us to focus on identifying and solving problems experienced by users.

User Persona

User Journey Map

I created a user persona based on common patterns of the users’ behaviors. This helped me to stay focused on the things that users genuinely need as I was redesigning the app. Also, it serves as a reminder of who I am designing for.

User Journey Map

Stage 3— Ideate

Identified Problems

Participants need a neater appearance to make it easier to use the Tiktokshop.

Changed the appearance of the cart feature by adding a search feature.Goal

How might we help users more comfortable using Tiktokshop?

DESIGN & PROTOTYPING

What Changed?

  1. Search page

2. Shopping cart page

Kesimpulan

Due to time constraints and the small amount of data from the study. I didn’t have a chance to do a test and validate the solution.
